New Sixth Form Football Academies in Chatham

Introducing The Holcombe Grammar School and The Victory Academy

Monday 10th February was a celebration of the new partnership between Advance Player Development (APD) and the Thinking Schools Academy Trust Sixth Forms: Holcombe Grammar School and The Victory Academy.

To launch the new academy, APD hosted a 5 aside charity football tournament on The Holcombe Grammar School 3G pitches, where players from both schools competed. Each team picked a charity of their choice to represent. APD donated £50 on behalf of the winner to their chosen charity.

The eight charities were: The Donkey Sanctuary, Children in Need, Cancer Research UK, Teenage Cancer Trust, Demelza House, Mind, Royal British Legion and Water Aid.

The Royal British Legion team were Holcombe Grammar Boys who were unbeaten throughout the tournament. They faced Cancer Research in the final as favorites to win but The Victory Academy boys won 3-2, to clinch the win. Congratulations to the Cancer Research team.

APD Director, Harry Watling, was delighted with the standard of football and the fair play that was shown. One particular student that stood out was, Isaiah, from Holcombe Grammar School. He won player of the Tournament, winning a pair of SAK Project, APD personalized shin pads and socks.

This event is the start of many to come. The new sixth form football academy welcomes all young male footballers who are leaving Year 11 this year, to come and trial. The Academy offers pupils a unique chance to study A Levels or BTECs, whilst training full time and playing weekly matches. Training will be incorporated into students timetable to ensure they maximize both their education and football. Highly experienced APD coaches will help aspiring young footballers reach their personal goals.

APD Football Academies will help the school distinguish themselves by hosting several showcase matches as well as a tour in October Half Term. These opportunities expose our Academy players to professional academy teams such as Derby County, West Ham United, Gillingham Fc and Millwall. If players are good enough to make the step up, APD will get them seen. APD boasts a Hall of Fame of over 100 players who have been spotted by Professional Academies.

APD’s Footballing Excellence is a perfect match for both schools outstanding academy performance. The Victory is one of the most improving schools in Medway and Holcombe Grammar School attracts students from all over the South East with its proven success. This Opportunity is for students who want to improve across the board.
